Priligy is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It has Dapoxetine as the active ingredient. This medicine primarily treats premature ejaculation (PE) in men. It’s a prescription-only medication available in two main dosages: 30 mg and 60 mg tablets.
What Are the Priligy Uses?
As noted, Priligy (Dapoxetine) treats PE in men aged 18 to 64. Premature ejaculation is a condition that affects sexual performance. A man ejaculates sooner than he wants to during intercourse. This medicine increases the duration it takes to ejaculate.
As an SSRI drug, Dapoxetine was initially made to treat depression. However, it failed as an antidepressant because of how fast it works and how quickly it leaves the body. For this reason, Priligy is best and mainly used for PC, not depression.
How Does Priligy Work?
The mechanism of action for Dapoxetine is still unclear. However, the medicine is presumed to affect premature ejaculation by inhibiting the serotonin transporter.
In other words, Priligy is believed to work by raising the level of a chemical substance in the nerve endings. As a result, it increases the time taken to ejaculate, improving control over ejaculation.
How to Take Priligy
Follow all the usage instructions on the packaging insert or label. Use Priligy only if prescribed by your doctor.
You can take this medicine with or without food as your healthcare provider instructs. Priligy is typically taken as needed, 1-3 hours before engaging in sex. It is not intended for regular daily use. You should not take more than one tablet within 24 hours.
Missed Dose/Overdose
As mentioned, dapoxetine is used only when needed. That means the risk of missing a dose is low. If you suspect an overdose with Priligy, contact your doctor immediately.
Warnings and Precautions
Please note the following precautions and warnings before and while taking Dapoxetine:
Driving/Operating Machines
Priligy may cause drowsiness, dizziness, fainting, and blurred vision. Hence, during treatment with this medicine, tasks that demand high mental alertness should be avoided. Refrain from activities such as operating machines and driving.
Alcohol Consumption
You really want to avoid drinking alcohol while you’re using Priligy. Alcohol may increase the risk of side effects.
Orthostatic Hypotension
Priligy may cause orthostatic hypotension, a drop in blood pressure typically experienced when standing up from a lying or sitting position. Take this medicine cautiously, as it may make you feel dizzy or faint.
Seizures
People who have seizures should use Dapoxetine with caution. The drug may further trigger a seizure attack.
Bleeding Disorders
People with active bleeding disorders should also use Priligy with caution. The medicine may increase the risk of excessive bleeding.
Usage While Pregnant/Breastfeeding
Dapoxetine is not meant for use in women.
When Not to Use Priligy
Avoid taking Priligy if you’re allergic to it. Adverse allergic responses to this medication are rare. However, seek emergency medical help if you notice the following symptoms:

- Severe dizziness
- Breathing difficulty
You should also avoid this medication if you have a history of the following conditions:
Heart Failure
Priligy may increase the risk of worsening your condition.

Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder is a mental state characterised by extreme mood swings. These include mania (hyperactivity, elevated mood, and intense excitement) and depression (feeling of sadness or low mood). Avoid Dapoxetine if you have a history of bipolar disorder to avoid the increased risk of worsening condition.
Moderate to Severe Liver Impairment
Priligy is not recommended for use if you have moderate to severe liver issues. An impaired liver function may trigger accumulation of this medicine in the blood. That can result in an increased risk of serious side effects.
